Primo XL Dimensions and Every Primo Grill Size: Junior 200, Large 300, XL 400, XXL 500

Primo Oval Junior 200, Large 300, XL 400 and XXL 500 ceramic grills side by side on a stone countertop

Picking a Primo comes down to size. Every Primo ceramic grill uses the same thick ceramic and the same patented oval shape, so the real questions are how big, how heavy and how much it holds. Every number on this page comes straight from Primo's current spec sheets for each grill, so you can plan your patio, cart or outdoor kitchen with confidence. Primo sells the four ovals as the Junior Charcoal, Large Charcoal, X-Large Charcoal and XX-Large Charcoal ceramic grills, and lists a grilling capacity for each one.

  • Pick the XL 400 if you cook for a family or regular cookouts. It has room for 8 whole chickens or 10 racks of ribs.
  • Pick the XXL 500 if you cook for big groups. It holds 10 whole chickens, 12 racks of ribs or 3 whole turkeys.

Grilling Capacity: Which Size for How Many People

Primo lists a grilling capacity for each of its ceramic grills. Grilling capacity is the easiest way to match a size to how you cook, because it shows what fits on the main grate at once, before you add the optional racks. A bigger firebox also holds more lump charcoal for long cooks.

How to choose your size
  • Oval Junior 200: couples, small patios and travel. Primo says it cooks for 5 to 10 people on the GO carrier.
  • Oval Large 300: most families. Room for 6 chickens or 8 racks of ribs.
  • Oval XL 400: the best all-around size for the large charcoal grill crowd who host often.
  • Oval XXL 500: the x-large charcoal pick for big parties, catering-size brisket and whole turkeys.

Setups, Carts and Built-In Cut-Outs

Every size can sit in a built-in island, ride on a cart or table, or come as an All-In-One with a cradle and fold-down side tables. The All-In-One adds a cradle with locking casters, side tables, an ash tool and a grate lifter. The oval All-In-Ones also include heat deflectors and a firebox divider.

Built-in cut-out shelf depth

For an island, Primo gives the depth from the top of the countertop down to the supporting shelf. The hinge-notch cut-out sits the lip of the grill lower to the countertop and needs a deeper shelf.
