Sizing Your Custom Hood
Proper sizing ensures your hood captures smoke, grease, and odors effectively. Four factors determine the right fit:
Width (Overlap)
The hood should overlap the cooking equipment by 3 inches on each side whenever possible. On island hoods, this is mandatory.
Depth (Projection)
The hood should project out to the front edge of the front burners to properly capture cooking vapors as they rise.
Height (Holding Capacity)
Hoods collect — they don't pull. Taller canopies hold more cooking vapors while the blower exhausts them. Professional cooktops need wall-mount or island hoods, not under-cabinet.
Mounting Height
Hang the hood at the recommended height for your model. Mounting higher than recommended reduces capture efficiency.
