Why Choose Bromic Heaters for Outdoor Heating

Bromic Heating was founded in Sydney, Australia in 2008 as part of Bromic Group, a business that dates back to 1978. In 2010 it introduced what it calls the world's first patented wind-resistant radiant gas heater and opened a US regional headquarters in Irvine, California, the arm known as Bromic Heating USA. The brand is now represented in more than 30 countries.

Most patio heaters are designed around a flame on a pole or a lamp on a stand. Bromic fixtures are designed to disappear into the architecture instead: low-profile units on walls, ceilings and poles, built for year-round use rather than the occasional cool evening. That is why you see the brand on residential pergolas and busy restaurant terraces alike. What sets the lineup apart from typical outdoor heaters:

  • Radiant heat: warms people and surfaces directly instead of the surrounding air, which makes it an efficient radiant heating choice for open-air spaces.
  • Wind resistance: Tungsten Smart-Heat gas models are rated for reliable ignition in winds up to 8 mph.
  • Space-saving mounting: wall, ceiling, pole or recessed installs keep the floor clear.
  • Smart Heat control: Affinity on/off and dimmer controls, with options for home automation and building management systems.
  • Weather-rated builds: IPX4 on Tungsten and Cobalt electric models and IP54 on Eclipse.

Bromic Gas Heaters vs Electric Heaters

Both types deliver radiant warmth. The right one depends on how open the space is, what utilities you already have and your budget.

Gas Heaters for Open, Breezy Spaces

The gas lineup covers the Tungsten Smart-Heat 300 and 500, the Platinum Smart-Heat 300 and 500, and a Tungsten portable freestanding model. Fixed units run on natural gas or propane (LPG), produce 23,600 to 43,000 BTU and cover roughly 160 to 215 sq ft each. Choose them for rooftops, open terraces and large patios where heat has to push through a breeze. Unlike floor-standing propane heaters, these mount overhead and are connected to a supply line by a licensed technician. They are not for fully enclosed areas. Browse gas-fired Bromic models.

Electric Heaters for Residential and Covered Patios

The electric range spans Tungsten, Platinum, Platinum Marine Grade, Eclipse and the new Cobalt series, from 2,000W to 6,000W. With no flame and no exhaust, electric models suit covered patios, pergolas, outdoor kitchens and semi-enclosed settings, and they are the most common residential choice. Wall- and ceiling-mounted models run on 208V to 277V circuits depending on the model, so plan for a licensed electrician. Paired with an Affinity dimmer, electric heaters can run below full power on milder nights. See every electric model.

Bromic Heater Series Guide

Each series trades off output, looks and price differently. The short version:

  • Best value: Cobalt.
  • Most output: Tungsten, up to 6,000W electric or 43,000 BTU gas.
  • Cleanest look: Platinum, with its slim glass front.
  • Heat plus light: Eclipse, with a built-in dimmable LED.
  • Coastal homes and boats: Platinum Marine Grade.

Tungsten Smart-Heat

Tungsten is the output-first series, with a honeycomb mesh face built for larger open spaces.

Choose Tungsten if you need the most heat per fixture or a gas option for an open area, and the heater does not need to be a design feature.

  • Electric: 2,000W, 3,000W, 4,000W and 6,000W covering about 65 to 160 sq ft, ETL listed and IPX4 rated, for wall, ceiling or recessed mounting.
  • Gas: the 300 (26,000 BTU, 160 sq ft) and 500 (43,000 BTU, 215 sq ft), plus a portable freestanding unit.
  • Warranty: electric models carry 2 years on the heater and 7 years on elements; fixed gas models carry 2 years, excluding maintenance items.

Platinum and Platinum Marine Grade

Platinum is the design-led series, with a slim profile and tinted ceramic glass front that blends into finished ceilings and walls. Electric models come in 2,300W (65 sq ft), 3,400W (108 sq ft) and 4,500W (143 sq ft) with a 3-year warranty, and the gas versions are the Platinum 300 (23,600 BTU) and 500 (39,800 BTU).

Choose Platinum if the heater will be in plain view, such as over a dining table or off the living room, and looks matter as much as output.

Platinum Marine Grade uses the same three wattages, built for coastal homes and boats. Its warranty runs 5 years on land-based installs and 3 years on marine vessels. View the Platinum lineup or see Bromic marine heaters.

Eclipse Smart-Heat

Bromic Eclipse pairs a 2,900W radiant heater with a 497-lumen dimmable LED light, so one fixture handles warmth and ambience. Heat steps through 33, 66 and 100 percent output across about 121 sq ft, and the unit is IP54 rated. It comes as a twin pole version (24 in. pole included) or a portable freestanding version, is electric only and carries a 3-year warranty.

Choose Eclipse if you want to light and heat a table from a single fixture, or need a portable electric option.

Cobalt Smart-Heat

Bromic Cobalt is the electric-only entry point to the lineup and the lowest price in the range.

Choose Cobalt if you are heating a covered patio or garage on a budget and want stainless steel without paying for designer glass.

  • Models: 4,000W (44 in., about 130 sq ft) and 6,000W (56 in., about 144 sq ft).
  • Voltage: 240V or 208V versions of each.
  • Build: 304 stainless steel housing, quartz elements, IPX4 rated and ETL listed.
  • Mounting: wall (6 ft minimum height) or ceiling (8 ft minimum height).
  • Warranty: 1 year on parts and 7 years on elements.

How to Size a Bromic Patio Heater

Size for the area people actually sit in, not the whole patio. These are the manufacturer's coverage figures per heater:

  • Tungsten Electric: 65, 100, 130 and 160 sq ft (2,000W to 6,000W)
  • Platinum Electric and Marine Grade: 65, 108 and 143 sq ft (2,300W to 4,500W)
  • Eclipse: 121 sq ft
  • Cobalt: 130 and 144 sq ft (4,000W and 6,000W)
  • Tungsten and Platinum 300 / 500: 160 and 215 sq ft

Then work through these steps:

  1. Measure the seating zone and multiply length by width. A 12 by 20 ft dining area is 240 sq ft.
  2. Divide by the coverage of the model you like. At about 130 sq ft each, two 4,000W Tungsten or Cobalt heaters cover that 240 sq ft area.
  3. Add capacity for wind. Open, exposed sites need more output than a sheltered pergola.
  4. Mount at the listed minimum height. Going higher spreads the heat thinner.
  5. Overlap and aim. Let coverage overlap slightly and point heaters at seats, not the middle of the floor.
  6. Check the voltage at your panel before ordering, since many electric models come in separate 208V and 240V versions.

Commercial Patio Heaters for Restaurants & Bars

A restaurant patio only earns its keep when guests stay comfortable after sunset. Overhead radiant heat keeps tables warm without floor-standing units that crowd walkways or need tank swaps, which is why Bromic is a common spec for commercial spaces. For commercial outdoor spaces, operators typically pair:

  • Tungsten gas models for open rooftops and terraces that need maximum output.
  • Electric Tungsten or Platinum under awnings, pergolas and retractable roofs.
  • Affinity Smart-Heat controls to run heaters in zones from one wall panel, with dimming to match the evening.
  • The Affinity BMS and Ethernet expansion board to connect heaters to a building management system.

Heater Controls, Mounts & Accessories

  • Affinity Smart-Heat controls: on/off and dimmer controllers for one or several zones, plus manual indoor and outdoor switches.
  • Eclipse controls: a pendant dimmer controller and master remote for Eclipse heat and light.
  • Home automation: the Smart-Heat Link RS232 plugin and the BMS/Ethernet expansion board.
  • Heat deflectors: 300 and 500 series low-clearance deflectors; on Tungsten gas models a deflector cuts the required ceiling clearance from 36 in. to 14 in.
  • Mounting: ceiling recess kits, suspension kits and ceiling poles for clean, flush or dropped installs.

Installation Basics

Plan the install before you buy, especially in new construction. Recessed kits need a ceiling cavity, gas models need a supply line run to the mounting point, and electric models need wiring and a control location roughed in before ceilings are finished. A few rules apply to every project:

  • Use licensed pros: gas models need a licensed technician, and electric models need a licensed electrician and a properly sized circuit.
  • Respect clearances: minimum floor clearance is 72 in. for wall-mounted and 96 in. for ceiling-mounted Tungsten and Platinum electric models, and 96 in. for gas models. Side and ceiling clearances are listed in each manual.
  • Check local code: local regulations can change mounting heights and ventilation requirements.
  • Never enclose gas heaters: they are for outdoor and well-ventilated areas only.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Bromic a good brand of patio heater?

Bromic heaters are built for year-round commercial and residential use, with wind-resistant gas burners rated for winds up to 8 mph, IPX4 or IP54 weather ratings, smart dimming controls and warranties of up to 7 years on electric elements.

How much does a Bromic heater cost?

In our store, electric models range from $585 (Cobalt 4,000W) to $5,786 (Platinum Marine Grade 4,500W). Gas models run from $1,828 (Tungsten 300) to $2,657 (Platinum 500), and the Tungsten portable freestanding unit is $2,431. Installation, controls and mounting kits are extra, and prices can change with promotions.

What is the cheapest heater to run on electricity?

Running cost comes down to wattage, hours of use and your local electricity rate: a 4,000W heater uses 4 kWh for every hour it runs at full output. Radiant heaters are efficient outdoors because they warm people rather than air, and a dimmer control lets you run below full power. Choosing the lowest wattage that covers your space keeps costs down.

What is the brand Bromic?

Bromic Heating is an Australian outdoor heating brand founded in Sydney in 2008 as part of Bromic Group. Its US operation, based in Irvine, California, opened in 2010, and the brand is sold in more than 30 countries.

Can I use a Bromic heater in a semi-enclosed space?

Electric models produce no combustion or exhaust, so they suit covered patios, pergolas and semi-enclosed spaces. Gas models should not be used in fully enclosed areas; follow the ventilation rules in the manual and your local code.

Gas or electric: which should I buy?

Choose gas for open, breezy areas that need maximum output and already have a gas line. Choose electric for covered or semi-enclosed spaces, simpler installs and a lower starting price.
