Freestanding Gas Grills on a Cart or Post

A freestanding gas grill sits on its own cart, so it can roll into place on a patio with no construction. Many of the same grill heads are sold on a cart, on a patio post or on an in-ground post. Propane or Natural Gas: Which Fuel to Order

• Natural gas (NG): runs from your home's gas line, so you never swap a tank. Best for a permanent outdoor kitchen.
• Liquid propane (LP): runs from a tank, so it works anywhere. Most built-in islands need a tank drawer or a nearby tank location.
• Order the right version: most grills here come in both an NG and an LP version. Switching later usually means a conversion kit and a gas professional.

A hybrid grill uses gas to light the fire and hold heat, then lets you cook over real wood or charcoal for smoke flavor. What to Check Before You Buy a Gas Grill

• Burners: count, material and total BTUs. More burners give you more heat zones to work with.
• Infrared: an infrared sear burner reaches searing heat fast, and an infrared rotisserie burner cooks evenly from the back.
• Size: a 36 inch grill feeds most families. Go 42 inches or wider for large groups.
• Cutout: for built-in grills, match the cutout to your island before you order.
• Warranty and parts: check the warranty on each product page. Replacement parts from a US factory are usually easier to get years later.
• Marine grade: near salt air or a pool, look for marine-grade options from Alfresco and Broilmaster.
