A built-in gas grill drops into a counter or masonry island and becomes the center of an outdoor kitchen. Most built-in models here use heavy 304 stainless steel and come in 30, 36 and 42 inch widths, with larger options from Twin Eagles, Alfresco and Fire Magic. Before you order, check the cutout width, depth and height on the product page, because every brand sizes its cutouts a little differently.
A freestanding gas grill sits on its own cart, so it can roll into place on a patio with no construction. Many of the same grill heads are sold on a cart, on a patio post or on an in-ground post. Post-mount grills from MHP, Phoenix and Broilmaster are a smart pick for condos, pool decks and smaller patios.

Most do. Nearly every grill in this collection is offered in a natural gas version and a liquid propane version. Choose the fuel when you order, because switching later usually needs a conversion kit.
Choose built-in if you are building an outdoor kitchen or masonry island. Choose freestanding if you want a grill on a cart or post that needs no construction.
It gets much hotter than a standard burner, so you can sear steaks and get a crust quickly. Many grills here have one built into the cooking area.
Weber says it still builds some grills in Huntley, Illinois, but it does not say which models. Check the label on the exact grill.
